Alumni are the lifeblood of fraternities. It is extremely important to keep alumni involved. Being that our chapter is only fifteen years old, we have only now begun to understand how important alumni are. In order to help our chapter excel, we must keep alumni involved in the everyday functioning of our fraternity. Our challenge is find ways to spark interest in alumni about the active chapter.
Goals:
- Maintain consistent contact from new alumni and regain contact from older alumni
· Communication is the key to alumni relations. Keeping alumni consistently informed about what is happening with the active chapter can be the deciding factor on whether or not alumni stay active. If a member graduates and never hears anything from the chapter again, the chapter could have lost a crucial part of its success.
· We have also created a new e-mail account that allows alumni to contact us about incoming freshmen that might be capable of becoming a FarmHouse man.
- Maintain good relations and involvement with the Alumni Association
· Our alumni association has been the focal point of alumni involvement over the past few years. Our most dedicated alumni are serving on the association board. They have worked very hard to help improve our experience in FarmHouse Fraternity.
· In order to keep the association involved with the chapter as much as possible, we have developed a program on which the association and chapter officers meet about every month and a half. We usually meet once over the Christmas and summer breaks as well. During these meetings, we discuss chapter happenings, updates on alumni’s lives, and housing issues. Because of our chapter’s continued involvement with the association, they have been more open to house improvements. This past year, the association made improvements to the social room, renovated our bathroom, and purchased a shed for storage and a new basketball goal.
- Use alumni programs as a way to involve more alumni
· Sometimes, the only time we come into contact with an alumnus is at events like Crawfish Boil, Alumni Weekend, Formal, and Homecoming. We must improve these events from an alumni perspective so that they will be more willing to involve themselves with the active chapter.
· During the past year, we have improved these programs so that alumni have become more interested and enthusiastic about the chapter. At Crawfish Boil, Formal, and Homecoming we have a table where alumni can sign in. This makes it easier for alumni to see if anyone they know is also in attendance, and also is a way for the chapter to keep track of the alumni that come to the events. We have also added a banquet to Alumni Weekend where we eat dinner, give out awards and provide a time where the actives and alumni can socialize.
